Main Focus

My research field is within movement ecology at the interface between behavioural ecology, ornithology and conservation. My research is focused on drivers and control of the ecological and evolutionary important phenomenon of migration. Using satellite- and conventional-based radio tracking systems, I study how small, long-distance migrants are able to ensure arrival to suitable winter and stopover grounds at the appropriate time of the year.

Within the overall aim of linking individual movements to biographical patterns such as colonisation and extinction, I track a broad range of movements and aim at understanding broader effects of these through modelling and simulation.
