Main Focus

I am interested in how, given internal state, external environment, and current goals, animals use and move through their multi-layered environments to balance their individual costs and benefits. I am particularly focused on fitness effects through mortality and reproductive success.

At the MPI-AB Collective Migration AG, I study how animals develop efficient migration. I ask how they navigate their physical, energetic, and social environments to balance the costs and benefits of migratory decisions using the white stork as a model.
