Dr. Robert Kraus

Guest Scientist

Main Focus

My major interest is to study and understand patterns and processes with little restrictions on taxonomic groups. However, over the years I have become most involved with birds – especially ducks – and mammals. Besides these groups I happily study any system, with an emphasis on genetic techniques in Molecular Ecology, Evolution and Conservation. Interdisciplinary aspects and collaboration attract me a lot more than high specialization on narrowed-down topics. During my undergraduate and PhD education, and also during my postdoctoral experiences, I was allowed to develop a strong interest for the combination of (population) genetics and ecological/organismal questions, as well as becoming involved in more applied fields of conservation genetics. I like to share ideas and work in a team environment, where all members profit from the resulting synergy. Therefore, I believe in an open and collaborative atmosphere.

My research interests span, but are not necessarily restricted to: Evolutionary biology, population genetics, conservation genetics, phylogenetics, biodiversity, advanced molecular techniques such as, next generation sequencing and genomics

If you find some of my past and present projects (http://www.orn.mpg.de/642473/Disease-Ecology-and-Evolutionary-Genetics) interesting, or would just like to get in touch with me for any other reason, feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to hearing from you and maybe building up the next project within our collaboration.
