Addressing the biodiversity crisis through collaborations: the role of camera trapping
Growing threats to biodiversity require timely information on the status of wild populations worldwide. Standardized, large-scale monitoring programs are critical to assess population trends and track progress toward the biodiversity and sustainable goals identified by several international initiatives, including the European Green Deal and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Yet, these programs are hard to establish, often due to limited resources. International collaborations centered on data and knowledge sharing can fill this gap. One of these collaborations, WildEuro, aims at gathering and collating camera trap data collected across Europe in the past decade to quantify the impact of the presence of humans and their domestic species on wildlife across the continent. This talk will introduce the WildEuro project and present some preliminary results.
