Senior Statistician Staff Mark Grote at the MPI

  • Start: Dec 1, 2022 12:00 AM (Local Time Germany)
  • End: Dec 3, 2022 12:00 AM

Mark is a Senior Statistician Staff from the University of California, Davis. He had previously worked with various members of Crofoot's Dept, including myself and I can tell you he's a great resource. While Mark is here, he is more than happy to provide one-on-one stats consultants sessions of about 1.5 - 2 hours, where you can bring statistical questions/doubts related to your Ph.D. projects (i.e., model fitting, the R coding error you haven't solve in weeks, or anything about Stats). You don't have to invest much time on preparing to meet with him, just show with the statistical/R-coding doubts you are experiencing!

There are ONLY 10 sessions available! If you are interested in making use of the opportunity, please send me a message (via email, slack or whatsapp +49.1515.1878.486) and I can accomodate your time with his. He'll be receiving max two students per day in the Central Scientific Office of the FIFTH floor / Bücklestraße. Very important to clarify that Mark is NOT seeking to become a co-author out of his consultant!

A message from Mark: My work involves talking with grad students, post-docs and faculty about their quantitative projects, acting as a human resource, advisor and colleague. I believe that the best statistical work serves to answer interesting questions about observations and data: it is not an end in itself. If you'd like to talk during my visit, plan to start the conversation by describing your project's big picture and context, and how the observations might answer behavioral or biological questions. If you already have slides or images prepared, feel free to bring them along, but don't spend a lot of effort making these-- the conversation may go in very different directions! I also enjoy talking informally about projects in early development.
