CASCB talk: How bodies shape cognition and behaviour by Dr. Bigna Lenggenhager

This event is part of an event series „CASCB Seminar Series Winter 2021/22“.

The sense of our own body is surprisingly plastic, and depends on the continuous successful detection and integration of interoceptive and exteroceptive bodily signals. Important mutual interactions exist between our sense of the body and emotional and cognitive processing. In my talk, I will present research on experimentally induced alterations of the sense of the body, and discuss its role in the study of brain-body communication, embodied cognition, and behaviour. Yet, despite the perceived individuality and privacy of one’s body, the bodily self is also a social phenomenon. I will thus speculate about how sensorimotor signals and their synchronisation within a group of people might shape collective cognition and behaviour.
