Plenary Speakers

Jane Reid is a population and evolutionary ecologist whose main interest is in understanding how wild populations will respond to environmental changes through combinations of ecological, phenotypic and evolutionary change. She is now a professor of population and evolutionary ecology at the Norwegian University of Science & Technology. She is interested in how movements, in the form of dispersal and seasonal migration, can shape eco-evolutionary outcomes. She tackles these questions by linking conceptual and statistical developments with long-term data from wild bird populations.

Daisy Dent is a tropical ecologist specialising in tropical forest restoration, conservation, global change and land-use dynamics. She is a Group Leader of the Restoration Ecology Research Group at ETH Zürich, a Research Associate at Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, Panama and an Affiliated Scientist at Max Plank Institute of Animal Behavior, Konstanz. Her research explores how plant-animal interactions shape tropical forest ecosystems and their recovery, with long-term research projects in Panama and Malaysia conducted in collaboration local and Indigenous communities.

Matthias's research focuses on the drivers of animal movement decisions – in particular, how individual memory, energetic constraints, and interactions with con- and heterospecifics shape where and when animals move. He is equally interested in how animals adapt their behaviour to human activities. He combines behavioural observations with bio-logging technologies, including GPS tracking and activity and physiological sensors. Matthias is an Assistant Professor at Vetmeduni Vienna where he leads the Movement Ecology Group.
