White storks seem to select mowed roadsides for foraging especially in times when other grassland habitats have not yet been mowed. This likely increases the risk of traffic collisions for the birds. The study aims to identify where in Europe and at what frequencies and seasons storks use roadsides for foraging. For answering these questions the GPS tracks of several hundred white storks with some millions of localisations are available in our database.
What we expect - Good skills in working with GIS data and doing analyses on GIS data - Good skills in working with large datasets - a basic interest in and knowledge of white storks
Who can apply? The project is available to BSc students or to MSc students (extended to known cases of collisions of ringed or GPS tracked storks).
