The Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior at its sites in Constance and Radolfzell offers an international, interdisciplinary, and cooperative environment that opens up unique research opportunities. For our institute in Radolfzell/Konstanz, we are looking for the next possible date, initially for 5 years with the possibility of extension, for an IT system administrator Linux (m/f/d) (80% - 100%).

Your tasks
- Installation and administration of the Linux based server infrastructure and Linux-based storage systems for scientific data
- Ensuring system availability through proactive approach and troubleshooting
- Maintenance and configuration of monitoring systems
- Backup and archiving of scientific data
- Regular installation of security and firmware updates
- Installation and support of our scientists in the operation of Linux-based (and Windows-based) computers and GPU workstations
- Configuration and administration of firewalls and VPN connections
- Configuration and administration of Proxmox and VMware virtualization environments
- Support for projects in the scientific field, adaptation of the IT infrastructure to new requirements and management of IT infra- structure projects
Your profile
- University degree in the field of computer science or a comparable field of study, or a completed apprenticeship as IT specialist for system administration or equivalent qualification
- Several years of professional experience in the above-mentioned areas are beneficial.
- Very good written and spoken English skills
- Profound knowledge of Linux operating systems and knowledge about MS Windows Server
- Experience in script languages especially Bash and PowerShell
- Solid knowledge of current network and firewall technologies
- Sound knowledge of storage systems (preferably Ceph and ZFS)
- Profound knowledge in the conception and administration of virtualization solutions
- Flexible, proactive, independent, responsible and solution-oriented thinking and service-oriented work
- Teamwork, communication and cooperation skills, friendly and open-minded appearance.
